Focusing on Safe & Civil Schools, Community Building, and Learning Preferences
Note:
Clusters need to plan 6 Project Blocks from the activity resources below. Clusters should keep in mind the goals of this unit as they select activities.
You have about 30-45 minutes for Community Building activities (these should come from the web sites below) and 30-45 minutes for Safe & Civil Schools activities (which should come from the distributed packets on the first day of school). Clusters should do at least 2 learning styles activities from those below.
Clusters can decide which Community Building and which Safe & Civil Schools activities they implement, but every student on the cluster should do the same activities. (There will be Safe & Civil Schools activities left over that the cluster should find time to implement over the coming weeks.)
Cluster Checklist:
Did you implement at least 10 Safe and Civil Schools activities?
Did you implement at least 5 Community Building Activities?
Did you implement one MI inventory and at least 2 other MI activities?
Safe & Civil Schools
The school's Safe & Civil Schools Committee has shared lesson plans and activity guides. Teachers will be expected to implement these activities in a uniform way.
Additional Teacher Resources related to Safe & Civil Schools:
Helping students understand how they learn well, will help them become better students, help teachers better meet their needs, and helps build relationships by showing students that teachers respect how they learn. Multiple Intelligence Theory is one approach to learning preferences that students and teachers find especially helpful. Clusters should select at least one Multiple Intelligence Inventory or Quiz to help students learn where their learning strengths are, as well as one or two MI activities to help students learn about the Multiple Intelligences and what these may mean for their school work and learning.
